The ISB opened in September 2004 to provide an international education for children from kindergarten to elementary levels (2 years - 10 years). It has now developed into an international school with a clear mission to meet the needs of the children of internationally minded parents through the medium of the English language.

The school has, at present, a roll of over one hundred and thirty and caters for children in Early Years, Elementary School and the first year of a Middle School (Grade 6).

The Middle School opened in September 2010 and will grow by one class level each year. The curriculum of the Middle School is based on the framework of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IBMYP) following on from the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IBPYP) taught in our Elementary School. The school plans to become a candidate school for the adoption of the Middle Years Programme during the school year, 2011 -2012.

Following a visit from The International Baccalaureate Organization in November 2009, the school achieved the status of being an IB World School authorized to offer the Primary Years Programme (IBPYP). The school is also a member of the Council of International Schools (CIS)

There are clear statements of Mission and Philosophy which underpin the day to day operations of the school.

The school is staffed by sixteen teachers, including teachers in the specialist areas of Art, Music and Physical Education. The Early Years classes and Grade 1 are teachers are assisted by Support Teachers.

The school is governed by a four member Board. There is a Parents Association who meets on a regular basis to support the work undertaken by the school.

The students come from twenty nine different countries. The majority of students come from Italian families. 55% of the students come from Mother Tongue Italian families, 25% of our families have one Italian and one non Italian parent and the final 20% come from families representing twenty eight different countries.

The school welcomes inquiries from parents and teachers wishing to learn more about the International School of Bologna.
